Why do Musk Turtles have their own pond?

We decided to add a smaller pond just for the musk turtles as we noticed some of them struggled with the depth of the main pond. The main pond is 4ft deep whereas the musk pond is 1ft so its much easier for them to move around and get out of the water when they decide they want to bask.
